Vasco Da Gama was born in 1460 and died December 24, 1524. Born in Sines into a noble family well educated learning many diffrent laungeges. His home land during exploration was Sines in Portugal. on July 8, 1497 a fleet of four ships (the Sao Gabriel in which he saild on the Sao Gafreal, the Berrio, and a storeship). The objective was to reach India by going around the cape of good hope at the tip of Africa and to get a whole lot of spices.

On November 22, 1497 they rounded the Cape of Good Hope and on May 20, 1498 they reached Calicut, India. When they first arrived they thought that the Indians were Christians but they were really Hindus. When they lft they took a lot of spices, and it took three months to cross the Indian ocean. The Sao Rafael was burned for lack of crew because they had died from scury. When they past the Cape of Good Hope on the way back from India the ships were separated in a storm, and they arrived back at Libson at different times. Vasco stoped in the Azores and finally reached Libson on Sept. 9, 1499.
