Explorer's Background De Soto was born 1500 in Villanueva de la Serena, Badajoz, Spain. He was the second son of a Spainish hidalgo, his family
was noble but poor.In 1514 De Soto left home on a voyage to th Indies.
Exploration and Purpose De Soto sailed for Spain. He set sail for North America on April 6, 1538, this voyage lasted one year and one month. De Soto's career lasted from 1514- 1538. The reason he set sail for America was because he was seeking gold and silver. He left Cuba on May 30, 1539 to go to modern day Florida. Spain had a lot of explorers during this time.
Arrival Point Once he got to Florida he headed north toward Geogia, then turned west. He found the Mississippi River, but didn't find the gold and silver he seeked. In May of 1542 De Soto decided to sail down the Mississippi River back to sea. He died on May 21,1542, and was buried on the banks of the Mississippi River.
